About us

Save the Children is a global organization that works to promote children's rights and provide assistance to children in need around the world. We focus on providing emergency assistance, education, healthcare, and protection to children in countries with the greatest need, including those affected by poverty, conflict, and natural disasters.

Support

Saving lives in emergencies
Children are always the most impacted in a humanitarian crisis, when earthquakes, cyclones and conflict shatter communities. In the aftermath of crises, children are among the most in need.
When disaster strikes

Disasters have the power to suddenly transform a child's life. Their schools may be destroyed – abruptly ending their education. They may lose their homes and become separated from their families. Health, food and sanitation systems may be a totally destroyed, exposing girls and boys to hunger and disease.

In the chaos after disaster strikes, children are more vulnerable to exploitation, violence, starvation and trauma. These experiences can be different for girls and boys, and yet both can experience similar forms of abuse at different times after a disaster – especially for migrant and refugee childrenon the move.

Health

We improve the health of children and families so children no longer die of preventable illnesses and live past their fifth birthday.

For many children around the world, the difference between life and death comes down to access to basic healthcare. Yet healthcare is a fundamental right of children everywhere.

We want children to survive preventable diseases and malnutrition. We want all mothers and newborns to have proper care before, during and after birth. And we believe girls and women should have access to information on their reproductive rights and the dangers of early marriage.

We have developed a low-cost healthcare model which has successfully improved the health of children and families, and reduced mortality rates, in many countries around the world.

We invest in addressing how girls and women access healthcare and break down the barriers to health created because of their gender. We focus on the huge impact clean water and good sanitation can have on the health of a community.

Education

we create greater access to quality education and ensure that little girls and boys are able to learn in safe and positive environments.

Every child has a right to learn
Education can help children break free from poverty, challenge gender and cultural expectations, and contribute to building stronger communities. Save the Children works hard to ensure all girls and boys have access to quality education because we know it can change lives.
Educating children around the world

Save the Children runs programs around the world dedicated to helping girls and boys access an education. Whether it's in a remote part of the world, in a refugee camp or right after a disaster, we make sure children can continue to learn in a safe and positive environment.

Our key approaches focus on ensuring young children gain strong literacy and numeracy skills. We establish and strengthen early childhood education, because those early years can impact how a child learns and develops in the future. We also train teachers and offer support and professional development to ensure children receive the best education possible.

Protection

Protecting children is an important part of our work to uphold child rights and give children a life free from violence and abuse. All over the world, we have programs dedicated to keeping children safe.

We help children who don't have appropriate care. These may be children who are neglected or abused, children in institutions, or children who are on the move – refugees, trafficked children or migrants.

During emergencies, we focus our response on the needs of children. In disasters and conflict, girls and boys can become separated from their families and are more exposed to sexual violence and child marriage, or even recruited as child soldiers.

We make sure children can safely go to school and play – especially in places that are prone to disasters or ongoing conflict. And we work with governments to change policies and strengthen child protection systems.
